Aston Villa vs Spurs - Holtby confident
16 October 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
Lewis Holtby reckons the positive results many of our lads have enjoyed over the international break has done wonders for team morale ahead of Sunday’s trip to Aston Villa.
We return to Premier League action this weekend, a fortnight after slipping to a surprise 3-0 defeat at home to West Ham United, looking to bounce back to winning ways.
And midfielder Lewis believes the pause to make way for the World Cup qualifiers came at just the right time, and has given our lads a chance to regroup after a disappointing result last time out.
“It was vital for everyone, especially after that Russia trip (to Anji Makhachkala in the Europa League), to have a break, and to go with the national teams to get some good experience like the Belgium and England lads did,” said Lewis.
“They achieved a ticket for the World Cup, and a lot of other players won with their countries, so for everyone the confidence is very important.”
Lewis put on a marvellous individual performance when we visited Villa Park last month in the Capital One Cup, providing a couple of assists as we recorded a comfortable 4-0 win.
And the 23-year-old is hopeful that we can enjoy another solid outing on Sunday afternoon as we return to a venue at which we’ve enjoyed consecutive 4-0 wins in our last two visits. However, he is fully aware that Villa will be keen to avoid a repeat of the aforementioned result.
“I’m definitely looking forward to going in that dressing room again because I’ve got good memories of it!” he said.
“My family’s going to be there, so it’s going to be a good game to play, and I hope that I can be part of it.
“I think we’re up for it. Especially everyone who played against West Ham is definitely looking to come back from the result we had. We must keep it out of our minds, and try to get a win.
“We’ve won twice at Aston Villa now, twice 4-0. But they will be up for it as well."
