Armstrong targets return

English Barclays Premiership

Chris Armstrong can see the light again after another frustrating pre-season programme. Things looked to be going well for the striker after he bagged four goals in three games on our Scandinavian tour. But he started to feel a problem in his groin at the start of the tour and after appearing as substitute in friendlies against Fulham, QPR and Peterborough, he had to miss out on our final friendly against Vitesse Arnhem.

Armstrong hasn't played for three weeks and has missed the start of the Premiership campaign but after weeks of intensive treatment, has set his sights on being in contention for the home game against Everton next Tuesday (September 5).

"It has been disappointing to have done the pre-season work and a week before the season to have a problem," he admitted. "It's frustrating because my last three pre-seasons seem to have been disrupted by one thing or another.

"There was a little bit of a tear in the groin area, not a hernia but hopefully it will soon be gone. I've had plenty of good treatment on it, a bit of rest, plenty of swimming and I started running again on Monday.

"I'm getting back to fitness now and I'm just looking forward to getting fully fit and playing football again."
