Chris Armstrong has already turned his clock forward to August.
The injury-hit striker has a summer programme to get fit for next season after being laid low by groin problems this term.
The 30-year-old has managed just three starts in nine appearances and suffered breakdowns after a couple of attempted comebacks — the last in February.
“I’ve come back a couple of times a little too early this season,” Chris reflected. “It has been a long, frustrating season but if I can get fit for next season I’ll look to make up for it then.
“I’ve coped okay with it. It’s always hard when you’re out for a long time.
“You have to get your head down and look towards being fit and playing again and that’s all I can do. That helps you get through it.
“I’m looking at the start of next season now. I’ve a programme to do a lot of strengthening work throughout the summer. These things have to be done if I want to get back.
“I’ve missed a lot of training this season so I’m going to get on with that and, touch wood, I’ll be ready for the start of pre-season.”
The most frustrating aspect for Chris is not being able to show new boss Glenn Hoddle what he can do either in training or matchday.
But he insisted: “I’ve got to get myself fit and playing before I can think about the future. I’m confident if I get fit and stay fit I can do enough to push for a place.”

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
