Anxious wait for Young Lions trio after South Korea stalemate

24 October 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

There was disappointment for our three lads on England Under-17s duty at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup on Friday night, as the Young Lions could only draw 0-0 with South Korea in their final game in Group B.

Alfie Whiteman, Marcus Edwards and Kazaiah Sterling all got further game time, but the end result means they face an anxious wait until Sunday night when all the group stage matches will be completed to discover if they’re able to advance to the last 16 as one of the best third-placed sides.

Alfie once again completed the full match in goal against Korea, making two important saves towards the end of the first period. First he clawed away Sanghyeok Park’s header before bravely pouncing on a loose ball inside his area following a free-kick.

Marcus was introduced as a substitute on 63 minutes with Kazaiah following suit 10 minutes later – and the latter almost found a breakthrough as he rolled the ball towards the net, only for goalkeeper Joonseo Lee to recover and claim the ball just yards from his line.

Try as they might, England couldn’t get off the mark and their fate now rests in the hands of others.
