Anthony on lean to the left

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Anthony Gardner insists he is happy to adapt to the demands of playing left-back in order to get a game.

The form of Noureddine Naybet and Ledley King has limited the opportunities for Anthony in his favoured position but, ahead of the visit of Bolton to the Lane, Anthony explains that he is happy to take his chances in unfamiliar territory.

"The position is not what I'm used to as I usually play centre-half, but I have played there maybe a couple of times in my career," reflected Anthony.

"Playing there requires a different mindset and you get more involved with the build-up play, as well as having to defend from a different area of the pitch. I'm going to get used to it as I want to play in the team whenever possible."

Anthony agreed that, with Thimothee Atouba in front of him, our left flank against Portsmouth must have been one of the most 'leggy' in recent memory.

"Yeah, Thimee is not the smallest either and we are both quite leggy! I don't know who will be playing there this weekend as he is injured so we will have to wait and see."

While Anthony clearly hankers after a return to a central defensive position, he reflected that he completely saw the logic in the recruitment of Naybet to our ranks, who has been a revelation alongside Ledley.

"I would like to play centre-half but they are both playing tremendously. I am just happy to be back in the team.

"We needed the experience at the back as we have young players in me, Leds and Noe too - all young heads at the back. We all want to improve and I understand why they bought an experienced centre-half in."

Onto the challenge of fourth placed Bolton, a position in the Premiership Anthony feels speaks volumes for the quality of team Sam Allardyce has built.

"It says a lot about them. They have a lot of experienced players, good players with great quality.

"They did us twice last season so hopefully we will do the same to them this time - and on Wednesday as well."
