Another memorable moment for Trippier at Watford

Kieran Trippier loves playing against Watford!

It was around this time last season that the right-back came in for his first league start and set up Heung-Min Son’s memorable late winner at Vicarage Road.

Fast forward a fraction over 12 months and he’s been at it again, once more thrown in for his maiden Premier League start of the campaign in the absence of the suspended Kyle Walker and promptly providing the assists for Harry Kane’s two first-half goals in our comfortable 4-1 victory.

Having also scored the winner against the Hornets at White Hart Lane last February, the former Burnley man was thrilled to once again make an impact after being handed an opportunity on New Year’s Day.

“I’ve not played for a few weeks so to play and win means I’m a happy man going home to see my family,” smiled Kieran, whose wife Charlotte gave birth to a son named Jacob a few weeks ago.

“Harry always says to me to get those early crosses in and he’s so positive. Every ball that goes in the box, you see him go flying in and it’s no surprise to see him score twice.

“I try to put in as many crosses as I can at the right times and hopefully Harry can get on the end of them. Thankfully he did that today and we’re happy that we got the three points.”

Kieran has been training hard and waiting patiently for his opportunity since his last appearance against Monaco in the Champions League at the end of November, but what has he made of his first few weeks of fatherhood?

“I’ve had a few sleepless nights!” he admitted. “Becoming a new dad is very exciting and it’s a proud moment for me and my wife but I have to concentrate on my football and wait for the opportunity like I did today. Then I just try to do my best every time I get that chance.”
