Anji vs Spurs - Nacer wants more goals
03 October 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
Fresh from bagging his first goal in our colours last week, Nacer Chadli hopes to see the undoubted quality in our squad shine through against Anji Makhachkala in tonight’s Europa League encounter.
The Belgian international, signed in the summer from FC Twente, feels we have enough in our ranks to build on the victory in last month’s Group K opener against Tromso IL – but is fully aware of the threats posed by our hosts in Russia.
“I think we have something to win against Anji,” surmised Nacer. “Anji are not a bad team but we have a good squad – we have a lot of quality so we hope to win the game.”
The 24-year-old is buoyant after shaking off a recent injury setback, and admits he was delighted to get on the scoresheet for the first time since his summer transfer in last week’s 4-0 thrashing of Aston Villa in the Capital One Cup.
Nacer finished well from an acute angle on the left late in the game for his maiden Spurs goal at Villa Park – and he hopes that’s the first of many.
“I’m happy to have scored my first goal, and I hope a lot more will follow it!” he beamed. “I will do my best to score more goals.
“I’m fully fit and we have a lot of confidence in the team, so we as players have to fight for our place. I think everybody is going to get minutes during the season, but the competition is good.”
