Andros keeping his feet on the ground

14 October 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

Andros Townsend insists he's taking nothing for granted ahead of England decisive World Cup qualifier against Poland on Tuesday night.

The flying winger’s name is still at the forefront of England coverage after his fantastic debut performance against Montenegro on Friday night.

Handed his first full cap by Roy Hodgson, Andros responded with a man-of-the-match display, setting-up the first goal and then crashing home the third in England’s 4-1 win.

“I’m not getting carried away,” Andros told us. “If I get my chance, I’ll look to do exactly the same as I did againt Montenegro. Hopefully I can help us get over the finishing line.”

As he told us on Sunday, Andros is very much keeping his feet on the ground after that debut.

“I’m just happy I’ve played well for my country and I just want to help us get to the World Cup,” he added. “I’ve not gone out looking to read about my performance in the newspapers or anything like that. I don’t want to get carried away.

“I had a good game but if I don’t do so well on Tuesday, it will soon be forgotten about.”

Jermain Defoe - who heaped praise on Andros after his England call last week - is also in the squad but Kyle Walker misses out through suspension.
