Andros is spot on

22 January 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Andros Townsend underlined the importance of taking a 1-0 lead to Bramall Lane for the second leg of our Capital One Cup semi-final next week.

The winger struck the decisive penalty in the 74th minute in the first leg at the Lane last night following Jay McEverley’s handball.

It was a game of few clear-cut chances as the well-drilled Blades proved a tough nut to crack, as Andros explained.

“It was difficult for us. Sheffield United defended extremely well, they were hard to break down, compact and we didn’t really create many chances but we scored the penalty and that means in the second leg, they will have to score and hopefully there will be space in behind them to create more chances.

“We all know how good Sheffield United are at home so it was important to try and score a few goals and put the game to bed, that didn’t happen but the main thing is we didn’t concede, we scored the goal and it’s all to play for now at Bramall Lane.”

Andros once again kept his nerve from 12 yards - his fourth successful penalty this season, following strikes against AEL, Asteras, Chelsea and Sheffield United.

“I’m confident. I saw someone point which way I was going but I wasn’t going to change my mind and knew if I put enough power on the penalty it would beat the goalkeeper and it happened that way. Hopefully we’ll now finish the job at Bramall Lane.”
