Andros encouraged by Hodgson faith

His latest call-up to the England national squad has come as a timely boost for Andros Townsend.

The exciting winger recently returned to the fold after a hamstring injury sustained in mid-December, and is gradually getting back to his best.

His sparkling performances for club and country prior to his unfortunate setback earned rave reviews from far and wide – and it’s that kind of form he’s looking to recapture as we approach the business end of the campaign.

The 22-year-old is hoping for another opportunity to shine when England host Denmark in a friendly at Wembley tonight – and he admitted the fact that Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson was happy to call on his services again has given him a massive lift after the disappointment of such a time-consuming recovery process.

“I was delighted to get called up again,” he said. “I’ve had a couple of months out injured so for the manager to put his faith in me is a confidence boost for me and hopefully I won’t disappoint.

“The fact that the England manager has put his confidence in me gives me added confidence to go out there and perform like I was earlier on in the season.

“Hopefully if I get the chance to play I’ll impress again.”
