Andre's delight after 'outstanding performance'

Andre Villas-Boas was full of praise after the team turned on the style in Sunday’s 3-1 win against West Ham.

He was particularly pleased with the tempo and sheer effort the lads put in after the midweek trip to Rome and tough examination against Lazio in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Jermain Defoe led the way with two goals after 44 and 64 minutes, sandwiched by Gareth Bale’s strike in the 58th minute as we got back to winning ways in the Premier League.

The foundations were laid in the opening exchanges as we put the Hammers on the back foot with eight efforts on goal in the first 20 minutes.

However, it took a moment of magic from JD to open the scoring just before the break and we then tore into the Hammers again, this time with two more goals to show after creating another string of chances and at 3-0, it was game over.

“We only just played against Lazio yet the performance was outstanding, inspiring,” said Andre. “It was just what we needed.

“We been unfortunate with a couple of results recently, we've deserved better, and it was important for us to get back to winning ways.

“Jermain Defoe is a great player in a great moment of form, Dempsey had an extremely good performance, Dawson came back into the team, there were lots of good individual performances and after playing against Lazio, it was tremendous to see that effort from the players.

“It was an important day for us and good in preparation for the Liverpool game.”

Andre described this as a ‘massive week’ and it continues against the Reds at the Lane on Wednesday night.
