Andre ready for Swansea test
Andre Villas-Boas expects another test when we return to Premier League action at Swansea on Saturday.
The Swans proved a tough nut to crack when we met at the Lane in December.
We dominated that day but Swansea, renowned for their passing and possession game, showed another side to their character with their defensive organisation frustrating us – until we finally broke through 12 minutes from time.
Jan Vertonghen’s fine finish from Kyle Walker’s free-kick secured the three points after we’d enjoyed 61 per cent possession and had 24 efforts on goal to Swansea’s four.
“We had an excellent game against them at home and hopefully we’ll do the same at Swansea, although we recognise it will be more difficult,” said Andre.
“It will be different because they’ve also come off a defeat and everyone wants to get back to winning ways.
“We’re normally good away from home and we’ll try to set out a performance like we had at Liverpool (March 10), but with a positive result.
“We feel down for the results we had recently, but we can’t forget that it was the players’ ambition that put us in the position we’re enjoying. We were in a situation of pressure before that but we handled it well.
“The lads showed tremendous commitment to do things right, so that leaves us confident for the eight matches remaining.”
Swansea are ninth in the Premier League having claimed their first major trophy by winning the Capital One Cup in February.
“They’ve been excellent,” added Andre. “In the league, they are in the position they would want to be and it would take a catastrophe to change that.
“They’ve also added a trophy to their season while keeping the same philosophy that was set out by Roberto Martinez and Brendan Rogers. You can only compliment them for what they’ve been doing."
