Andre on Wigan
Andre Villas-Boas highlighted two ‘Ms’ as we prepared for Saturday’s Premier League clash at Wigan - motivation and momentum.
The players have spoken about going to the DW Stadium with the same motivation as they approached Sunday’s match against Manchester City and everyone would to transport the momentum of scoring three goals in seven minute late in that game to this weekend’s fixture.
“It’s a totally different proposition (to City last week) but just as important,” said Andre.
“It’s our responsibility to understand that only the same motivation as playing against the champions will give us the conditions to win this game.
“All of our remaining five games are vital. We are running into a decisive part of the season, destiny is in our hands and we will try to get as many points as possible.
“The transfer of momentum is the key but is the most difficult thing. If we do that, hopefully we’ll achieve the result. Wigan is in a different battle but their ambitions are as important as Manchester City’s, and ours. We expect a difficult game.”
Wigan have slipped into the bottom three after back-to-back defeats, but before that, lost just one in five in the Premier League. They have also reached the FA Cup Final after beating Everton 3-0 at Goodison and then Millwall in the semi-finals at Wembley.
However, victory at the DW will lift us into third with Arsenal and Chelsea playing on Sunday.
“We will have to be at our best to overcome Wigan and hopefully come into the home game against Southampton in a better position,” added Andre.
