Anderton returns!

English Barclays Premiership

Darren Anderton is back! The England midfielder has been pencilled in for our reserve team match against Watford at St Albans on Wednesday night.

Anderton damaged his groin against Everton on September 5 and was expected to be out for at least a month. However, three weeks later, he is ready for action.

In a strong-looking side Anderton joins Stephen Clemence, Ian Walker, Ledley King, Gary Doherty, Willem Korsten and Matthew Etherington.

Chris Hughton is hoping to kick-start the club's FA Premier Reserve League campaign with a win against Watford.

Boss Hughton was desperate for a good start to the season after they took time to get into their stride last time around. They recovered to finish a fine third and are now looking to repeat the trick after starting this campaign with two defeats and draw.

“We need to win,” said Hughton. “It’s our fourth game of the season, we’ve started slowly and funnily enough we started like that last season and came very strong after that.

“It is frustrating because you want to win every game. But in this position you get used to the change of line-up week in, week out, players that are on their way back and generally it’s the day before until I know what side is going to play.

“You get used to those disappointments but we wanted a good start because last season we did so well to put ourselves in the position with three or four games to go of having a chance of winning after the poor start we had. Let’s hope this is the start.”

He expects a tough time from Watford and added: “Watford are always good at reserve level and these are usually difficult games.

“Generally if the first team is doing well it filters down to reserve and youth team levels. So I’m certainly anticipating a difficult game and a competitive game.”

Just a reminder to fans that this game is at St Albans FC, not White Hart Lane as first scheduled. Kick-off 7.30pm.

Spurs Reserves: Walker, Hillier, Jackson, King, Doherty, Thelwell, Anderton, Clemence, McEwen, Korsten, Etherington. Subs: Dominguez, Davies, Kelly, Gower, Fenn.
