Anderton on Charlton comments
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Darren Anderton is hoping to make Charlton pay for comments in Monday and Tuesday’s newspapers by letting his feet do the talking in Wednesday night’s crucial FA Cup tie.
Veteran defender Steve Brown and goalkeeper Sasa Ilic stuck the boot in after Saturday’s goalless Premiership encounter at the Lane.
Brown was widely quoted in the national press claiming ‘it must be quite desperate coming to watch that every week’ while Ilic said in Tuesday’s Sun ‘they didn’t put me under much pressure as I expected and I wasn’t really troubled all afternoon’.
Anderton, much too experienced to get into a war of words, simply responded: "We’ve seen that they’ve been criticising us in the papers. That’s fair enough.
"If they believe what they are saying then they are entitled to their opinions - but they have to back it up on Wednesday.
"Our manager wouldn’t accept it. If I started slagging off opposing teams I’m sure he would call me into his office. That’s not the sort of thing he likes to see.
"We know we didn’t play as well as we would have liked to on Saturday but they didn’t beat us. I’m pretty sure we won’t play the same way on Wednesday night. I feel quietly confident about the game."
