'An amazing moment for us' - Mauricio in Times Square

25 July 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

A first visit to New York and Mauricio Pochettino was a proud man as the Club beamed across Times Square from Nasdaq’s video wall.

Mauricio and his coaching staff joined Chairman, Daniel Levy and the board – plus Ledley King – as Daniel was invited to take part in the official Bell Ringing Ceremony that opens the stock markets every morning at Nasdaq’s HQ in New York.

Mauricio then joined us in the middle of the hectic Times Square. “It’s an exciting moment for us and my first time in New York, so to share that with everyone is fantastic.

“It’s so exciting because after 45 years, I’ve watched so many movies about New York but now to be here, to stay and to feel the city, it’s fantastic.”

Looking over his shoulder, Mauricio watched a video starring Dele Alli, Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier, Harry Kane and Jan Vertonghen, telling everyone what the Club is all about and thanking our US fan base again for their continued support.

“It’s amazing. It’s an exciting moment Tottenham, for everyone,” added Mauricio. “We have a lot of fans in America and it’s great to play here, to meet the fans and to first play in Orlando and now here in New York. It’s a fantastic moment to share with our fans.”

It was then onto the matter in hand tonight – AS Roma in the second of our ICC matches having beaten PSG 4-2 on Saturday.

Roma finished second behind Juventus in Serie A last season and Mauricio said: “We so happy with the players. They are working very hard and excited to play again in front of our fans.

“It was a difficult game against Paris St Germain and now we play another top club in Roma from Italy, another team in the Champions League. It’s another tough game for us but it’s great to see the squad getting fitter every day and the progression of the younger players.

“It’s important for us to compete again and to feel the competition, just like we did against PSG.”

We take on Roma at the Red Bull Arena, New Jersey at 8pm local time, 1am UK
