All's well for Thelwell
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Alton Thelwell hasn’t taken long to underline his versatility to new boss Glenn Hoddle.
Young Alton, 20, made his first appearance in a midfield role against Arsenal as Glenn watched from the Highbury stands three weeks ago.
He has since played in a central defence and Glenn handed him a starting slot alongside Chris Perry for Tuesday’s visit of Chelsea.
With Chris injured in that game, Alton could now find himself alongside fellow 20-year-old Anthony Gardner for the trip to Liverpool against the current England trio of Owen, Fowler and Heskey.
Alton said: “We’ve a new manager, everyone is eager to impress, we’ve four games left before the end of the season. It’s all change at the moment.
“Personally I’m just delighted to be involved. It’s all good experience for me.”
So what about that midfield experience against Vieira, Parlour, Pires and co? “I just found out a couple of hours before kick-off at Arsenal that I was playing in midfield against Vieira — what an easy baptism!” he revealed.
“I found it all right in there though. There were a lot of injuries and I thought the young lads coped quite well.
“I played there a few times in the youth team and quite enjoy it in there. I know I’m first and foremost a defender but I know now I can go in there and do a job. If you can play other positions it’s all good for you.”
It has certainly been a season to remember for Alton, who added: “There have been a few ups and downs, managers coming and going but I’m enjoying it.
“Hopefully I’ll get a few more games under my belt and then look forward to a nice break in the summer.”
