All rosy for Gardner

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Anthony Gardner will not forget his last few days in a hurry.

Just 10 days ago he came on as an early substitute to face Niall Quinn and Kevin Phillips at Sunderland. Last Tuesday was a repeat performance as he replaced Chris Perry in the first half against Chelsea and was up against Gianfranco Zola and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

To cap a week to remember he then faced Michael Owen, Emile Heskey and Robbie Fowler as he started at Anfield on Sunday.

And the tall, cultured, 20-year-old coped admirably with all the challenges as he grasps his chance to show boss Glenn Hoddle what he can do.

He reflected: "It’s been an unbelievable week for me, playing a few games, playing first team football. To play against all three Liverpool strikers was a good test for me again.

"We’ve still a few injuries and hopefully I might keep my place against Aston Villa on Saturday. At least it gives me the chance to impress the manager."

It had been a frustrating season until recently for the defender. He had seen the likes of Alton Thelwell, Ledley King, Gary Doherty and Simon Davies all get their chance at first-team level while he continued to plug away in the reserves.

His breakthrough came at Derby County in March and he was soon involved in another derby - his full debut against Arsenal at Highbury.

Anthony has now featured in three successive games and he feels playing regularly recently has already made him a better player.

He added: "Coming here and not playing too many games was a change from Port Vale where I was in the mode of playing games.

"The more you play the better you get and the more used you get to the Premiership. Playing now can only be good for me."
