All change for Seb

Footballing fortune has changed dramatically for Sebastien Bassong.

Footballing fortune has changed dramatically for Sebastien Bassong.

Just under a year ago, the ever-consistent defender arrived at the Lane with Newcastle United for a vital Premier League game.

We won that game 1-0 to plunge Newcastle back into the relegation zone and they never recovered as the dreaded drop to the Championship became reality a month later with a 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa.

Sebastien made 30 appearances for the Toon and was naturally devastated by relegation, but his career took a new turn when he arrived at the Lane in August.

He scored the winner against Liverpool on his debut on the first day of the season and he hasn't looked back since - the battle to avoid the drop has been replaced by the fight for fourth place and the chance to go to Wembley in the FA Cup.

"This is why football is so fantastic," said Sebastien, who has already made 33 appearances for us in all competitions. "Everything can change so quickly, the ups and the downs.

"At the moment, everything is going right for me. Last season I was fighting against relegation now I'm fighting for fourth place in the table and the FA Cup. In the summer, I might go to the World Cup.

"Everything is fine. I enjoy it so much at Tottenham and I just hope everything keeps going like this."

Fulham are next on Sebastien's horizon in Wednesday night's FA Cup quarter-final replay at the Lane - the winners face Portsmouth in the semi-finals at Wembley.

"It would be great on a personal level because I've never been to Wembley and I've never played in a cup semi-final," he added. "It would be my first semi-final and at Wembley, so that would be special.

"The FA Cup is very special. It's a famous competition around the world. Everyone watches the FA Cup, it has a special spirit and for me to be involved is great because as I said, I've never been to Wembley and I would love to go there.

"We'll be doing all we can to beat Fulham."
