All about the win - Andre
Andre Villas-Boas reflected on a crucial 1-0 win against Southampton and insisted: “It was all about the result.”
The Saints impressed on another afternoon of drama in the Premier League at White Hart Lane.
Pressing us high up the pitch, they refused to let us settle into any rhythm of play and restricted us to few chances.
At the other end, Southampton forced Hugo Lloris into a fine save in the first half, tipping Ricky Lambert’s free-kick onto the post.
However, Andre’s substitutions worked again - Emmanuel Adebayor and Gylfi Sigurdsson this time making an impact and helping us step up a gear in the final half-hour.
We’d finally pinned the Saints back for a sustained period when Gareth Bale found a yard of space cutting in from the right and unleashed a fierce drive that flew into the bottom corner.
It was a strike worthy of winning any game and Gareth’s 20th in the Premier League on his 200th appearance for us – against his former club.
“It was about winning,” said Andre.
"It’s easy to recognise that we didn’t play well in the first half, but it’s just as easy to recognise that we deserved the win for what we did in the second half.
“As our game improved, Southampton closed the spaces and really defended well.
“They created pressure and that gave us lots of difficulties, but in the end we got what we deserved.
“It wasn’t about the performance, it was about getting the result. Sometimes it has to be like that and the three points keeps us in the frame.”
