All about the team - Hugo

21 September 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Modest as ever, Hugo Lloris predictably shone the spotlight away from himself after his wonder save helped us to a 1-0 win against Palace on Sunday.

But Hugo couldn't help but smile after he was told what Jan Vertonghen had to say about his save from Bakary Sako in the second half.

“He is an unbelievable goalkeeper,” said Jan. “It’s difficult for him because most of the game he has nothing to do and out of nothing he makes maybe the best save of his life. That’s why he is a number one goalkeeper. “

With the game still poised at 0-0, Hugo somehow got down to his right to touch Sako’s piledriver onto the post.

Three minutes later, Heung-Min Son scored the only goal of the game as we made it two wins on the trot and five unbeaten in the Premier League.

“Yes, it was an important moment, but it’s a team performance and everyone made the game easier because we were all involved, all focused and all concentrated,” said Hugo.

“I try always to do my best for the team and to help the team win and I’m happy to do that.”

Then told about Jan’s comments, he added: “Listen, as I said, maybe in two or three months we will have forgotten about it. We all live in the present moment. I will always question myself as I do after every day and I’m already focused on the next game.”

Hugo was particularly pleased to keep a third-successive clean sheet in the Premier League and we’ve only conceded four goals in six league matches so far.

“In football you have to respect the basics and we’re doing that well in the last couple of games,” he said. “You always need to be 100 per cent in every match and never have an excess of confidence.

“It’s always great to get points but you must always be focused on the next game.”
