All about the team - Andre
Andre Villas-Boas dedicated his Barclays Manager of the Month Award for December to the players and staff.
We won four, drew one and lost one of six fixtures in the Premier League in December, a key month as we’ve put together a run of seven wins in nine to sit third in the table.
“It’s important for everyone, not just myself,” said Andre. “It’s recognition for something that we’ve achieved in the past, but our objective is to continue to achieve in the future.
“We have to congratulate the players for what they have been doing because in-between the Premier League fixtures, we also had the Europa League and the players have been excellent in their non-stop effort for the team. The reward is that we sit third and we look brightly to the future.”
It could have been even better in December. Our only loss was in agonising circumstances at Everton, where we led 1-0 until the 90th minute, when two goals in as many minutes completely turned the game around.
We also dominated against Stoke in a goalless draw on December 22, but couldn’t break down one of the toughest defences in the Premier League.
Andre underlined the importance of being able to bounce back from those disappointments.
“Everton was difficult to take at the time, it would have been excellent to take points from Goodison Park,” he added. “The team did superbly to bounce back.
“This season we’ve shown a number of times that we’ve been able to bounce back from adversity. I think that’s another example of our desire and commitment to achieve our objectives.”
