All about the points - Andros
21 October 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
Andros Townsend insists it’s all about the three points after his first half goal set us on the way to victory at Aston Villa on Sunday.
Andros’ in-swinging ball beat Brad Guzan at the far post to put us in front, before Roberto Soldado completed a 2-0 win in the second half.
It capped a marvellous couple of weeks for our in-form winger, after his critically acclaimed England bow in last week’s World Cup qualifiers.
But the down-to-earth 22-year-old remains focussed on playing his part for the team, as we seek to build another winning run in the Premier League.
“The main thing was to get three points after the loss against West Ham,” reflected Andros.
“It was about getting back to business and we controlled the second half and deserved the three points.
“It’s been a good few weeks for me but I’ve got to continue to play well. I know I can’t rest on my laurels.”
Andros admitted his goal had an element of fortune about it, as his ball into the box ran beyond everyone in the area and crept in at the back post.
But, as Andros said, a goal is a goal!
“It was my cross into the box, no-one got on the end of it and I’ll take that!” he said.
“I’m not complaining, I need all the goals I can get at the moment. I’m not going to lie. I didn’t mean it, but I’ll take it.”
Andros also saluted our counter-attacking football on Sunday, as we returned to winning ways following the defeat to West Ham United last time out.
“That’s when we’re at our best, when teams have to open up, they can’t get 10 men behind the ball, they have to go for it and we can pick them off on the counter,” he said.
“We did that well in the second half, scored the second goal and could have scored more to be honest.
“We didn’t play well against West Ham last time out, a 3-0 home defeat against local rivals is never good but we replied in the perfect fashion and sent our fans home happy.”
