All about taking chances - Pritch
31 August 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Alex Pritchard was delighted to get some more Premier League minutes under his belt after his cameo against Everton on Saturday.
The attacking midfielder, excellent on loan at Brentford in the Championship last term, replaced Ryan Mason for the last few minutes of our goalless draw with the Toffees at White Hart Lane.
Having played for our Under-21s to build up his match fitness following an injury sustained on international duty over the summer, Pritch went on as we chased a late winner against Roberto Martinez’s side.
And although the points were ultimately shared, he said he always felt confident that a late chance may come in what was a fiercely-contested match – one which yielded only his second appearance in the Premier League after he featured against Aston Villa on the last day of 2013-14.
“Just watching it from the sidelines you knew about the pace of the game and I was always thinking in the back of my mind that there was going to be a chance or that someone was going to make a mistake as the game went on,” said the 22-year-old.
“You’ve always got to think like that as a forward player and hopefully try to create something, but it wasn’t to be this time.
“For me, I’ve obviously been getting minutes under my belt with the Under-21s and then to step up and play today... it was good to get on the pitch and have some minutes and hopefully that can carry on.”
Assessing the final outcome against Everton – our third consecutive draw in the Premier League – Pritch added: “We had chances that we didn’t take, but that’s the way football is.
“On the other side of it we’ve got a clean sheet and a point, but we do need three points to really get the season going so hopefully that will come very soon.”
