Agony for Korsten

English Barclays Premiership

Willem Korsten has been rocked by more injury heartache. The midfielder requires surgery on a hip problem and has his fingers crossed that the extent of the injury is not too serious.

Signed last year for L1.5m, the Dutchman was grounded with a serious Achilles complaint from pre-season until finally making his debut in December. Desperately looking to do well this season, Korsten now feels back to square one.

A depressed-looking Korsten admitted at Spurs Lodge: "I didn't think it could get any worse than it was last year but I'm now in a position where I'm injured again and need an operation on my hip.

"The surgeons are going to have a look at exactly what is wrong with it because it is not good at the moment. It is painful when I play, painful when I run, and is stopping me playing how I want. I don't really know what is wrong. I will have to wait until the operation.

"I feel devastated. It is the worst start possible for me and I just want to get over it as soon as possible. Hopefully the operation won't bring up any nasty details and just be a routine one so I can be fit again as soon as possible.

"This is not the way I wanted things to go. It is a great club and I want to show the fans what I can do. So far I haven't been able to do that because of injuries so fingers crossed everything will be okay after this operation."
