Ade's focus on Cardiff

Emmanuel Adebayor’s mind was focused on one thing after his match-winning display against Dnipro – Cardiff in the Premier League on Sunday.

Ade struck twice in the second half as we turned around a 2-0 deficit in the tie to win 3-2 on aggregate and progress into the Round of 16 of the Europa League.

That took the striker’s tally to 12 goals in 15 appearances in all competitions.

“It’s not about the goals, it’s all about us going through,” said Ade, who quicky paid compliment to Christian Eriksen for a superb free-kick that got us back into the match.

“It was a fantastic free-kick and after that we played well, kept the ball well and scored the goals. It was an important win for everyone.

“The crowd was right behind us, we could hear the fans, they were really up for it and we showed that desire. The team spirit was good again and we played with character, personality and fought for each other. We’re all happy but now we have to focus on Sunday.”

The victory set-up a mouth-watering Round of 16 clash against Portuguese giants Benfica – immediately stirring memories of our famous European Cup semi-final encounter in 1962. We’re at home in the first leg on March 13 before travelling to the Estadio da Luz on March 20.

“I’m not thinking about Benfica yet,” added Ade. “I’m thinking about Cardiff and Chelsea, then Benfica. Right now, my head is on Cardiff on Sunday.

“We’re playing well and playing for a place in the Champions League, Cardiff are playing to survive. They will be up for it and we have to want it more.”
