Ade encouraged by Saints win

06 October 2014|Tottenham Hotspur

Emmanuel Adebayor was pleased with the way we secured the points from Sunday’s clash with Southampton.

The Saints arrived at White Hart Lane on a real hot streak, having won their previous six matches in all competitions, but we restrained them and took a 1-0 lead thanks to Christian Eriksen’s well-placed strike five minutes before half-time.

Despite the visitors going close on a couple of occasions in the second period – Hugo Lloris making a stunning save from Victor Wanyama and Sadio Mane missing his kick from close range shortly before the end – we kept our lead intact, with striker Ade declaring it a job well done.

“We played well, we were sharp on the counter-attack and we took our chance via Christian Eriksen so I’m very happy,” the front man said.

“We concentrated on our game defensively as well. We are trying to correct our past mistakes and today we looked solid and played some good football so a 1-0 win and three points – I will take that!”

The Togolese forward, who now joins up with his country for back-to-back African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda, also reckons Sunday’s result has given us a welcome lift ahead of our next Premier League outing at Manchester City after the international break.

“The most important thing is to win the game as a team and this weekend we have done that, so I’m very happy and very pleased for the group,” he added. “Some players are now going away to play international matches and then we have one of the biggest games of the season at Manchester City so we’re looking forward to that.”
