Ipswich Town U18s 3, Spurs 0

Match abandoned at half-time, waterlogged pitch...

Pat Holland admitted our Under-18s were fortunate as Saturday's encounter at Ipswich was abandoned at half-time due to a waterlogged pitch.

The lads trailed 3-0 at the time against the side that toppled them in the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup last season.

Coach Pat reported: "We were all looking forward to it because it was the first time we'd played Ipswich since the semi-finals last season and I was a little surprised with how strong they went - they mainly fielded Second Years. That was the challenge and the boys have to react to it.

"Basically, they were the better side in terms of keeping the ball. The attitude of our lads to work hard was good, we tried to close them down and get around them but it was one of those games where you felt they were going to score and we hoped we would.

Jamie Davis (pictured left) looked lively and we got behind them a few times, got crosses in and that was good but we made some really poor defensive mistakes.

Ipswich's first goal was a basic one-two on the edge of the box that resulted in a penalty.

The lads disputed the decision but we were too far away to judge.

"The second and third goals were again defensive errors on the edge of our box where we've been beaten too easily, lost possession and they'e scored.

"From that point of view, it was very disappointing. We were going into half-time to get a reaction but then fortunately for us and it was fortunate the game was called off.

"Ipswich were strong and this has given us a yardstick from which to work from. We knew they were a good side after the semi-finals last season and that's the level we need to reach. At least we'll now have a second opportunity at this game."

Spurs U18s: Button, Riley, Martin, Wells, Mills, Peprah, Davis, Lewis, Hamed, Maghoma, Dawkins. Subs: Kyriacou, Hughton, Heller, Seanla, Lake
