Alex Inglethorpe was delighted with his young squad's performance and 2-1 victory against Watford in the FA Premier Academy League.

Without the services of top-scorer Tomas Pekhart, the 16-man party included a substitutes' bench made up entirely of Under-16 players with another Under-16, Yaser Kasim, starting in central defence. Pekhart joined Matthew Wells, David Button, Joe Martin, Jamie Davis, Alex Olsen and Terry Dixon on the injury list.

However, a bright start led to an early goal from Chris Casey and the lads then recovered from Watford's equaliser just before the break to win it via David Hutton's (pictured) penalty in the second half.

Alex reported: "It was a young team and they did really well, they tried to do the right things, to pass and to play.

"We had a lot of success in the first 25 minutes and went 1-0 up when Chris Casey headed home well from David Hutton's corner. That should have been the catalyst for us to push on but exactly the opposite happened, we took a step back, Watford took a step forward and they had the better of the rest of the half and equalised from the penalty spot.

"We got our rhythm back quickly in the second half and deserved to re-take the lead when David Hutton scored a penalty after Takura Mtandari was brought down.

"After that, we had three or four gilt-edged opportunities but a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping made sure the scoreline stayed at 2-1. Overall though, a very good performance."

Spurs U18s: Stroud, Mtandari (Adam Smith, 70), Alex Smith (Obika, 46), Kasim, Casey, Archibald-Henville, Hughton, Livermore (Townsend, 75), Fraser-Allen, Hutchins, Hutton. Unused sub: Dalton.
