Club announce John McDermott as Academy Manager
The Club has announced the appointment of John McDermott as our Academy Manager. John will report directly to Frank Arnesen, the Club’s Sporting Director, and joins from The Football Association where he has held several roles including England Under-21 assistant coach and England Under-16 coach. Before joining The FA, he was Academy Director at Watford.
Frank commented: "A significant part of my role at the Club is to ensure that we have an Academy with the highest standards of coaching and success in nurturing young talent. I am delighted that John will be joining us. He brings a wealth of knowledge of training and selection methods to our Club and I look forward to our Academy becoming a significant development route for future First Team players.
"I should also like to take this opportunity to thank Peter Suddaby for the excellent work he has done as Academy Manager over recent years. He has helped to develop a number of players who have graduated to our first team squad including, in the last 18 months alone, Stephen Kelly, Dean Marney, Phil Ifil and Mark Yeates. We wish him well for the future.”
Commenting on his appointment, John said: "Working at a Club of the stature of Tottenham Hotspur, alongside Frank and the rest of the Academy and scouting staff, is an exciting and challenging opportunity for me. Both Frank and Martin have a track record for bringing young players through to the First Team and I’m looking forward to helping develop young talent for them."
John Moncur leaves the club after almost 25 years during which time he held the roles of Youth Development Officer, Head of Youth Development and Head of Youth Scouting.
Sporting Director Frank Arnesen commented: "John has given this club many, many years of dedicated service. We appreciate highly everything he has done and wish him well."
Two months into his new role, Mel Johnson has been actively scouting for the Academy. Mel was brought in to strengthen the scouting resources at the club in the age group of 16 and above. Prior to joining Tottenham, he was Chief Scout at QPR.
