Academy lads set for Florida trip

Our Academy lads are jetting off to Florida this weekend to take part in a tournament involving domestic and international sides.
Academy Manager John McDermott is leading an 18-man squad on the trip, which will see the lads play four games in eight days.
Among the opposition our Under-18s can look forward to playing is the USA national Under-18s side – and John feels the excursion will be highly beneficial to our youngsters’ development.
“We got an invitation to the tournament through our contacts at Under Armour so we’re very grateful to them for that,” John said.
“It falls at a very good time in the season – the young players have had a very intense time since July 1.
“We’ve not had a game since the FA Youth Cup tie against Middlesbrough nearly a fortnight ago, so the players have just been able to train quite lightly and we’ve upped the ante this week.
“We’re looking forward to playing against international opposition. We play the US national side which should be extremely tough, and then play against Brazilian and Mexican opposition which should be very difficult as well.
“It’ll be tough but very worthwhile.”
