Academy end of term reports
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
The final part of Pat Holland's assessment of how our Academy squad shaped up last season.
The lads finished the season on a high with three wins in their last four league games on top of a run to the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup.
Here is the last batch of players to come under coach Pat's microscope...
Pat Holland: "Chris went into the reserves and didn't let anyone down. He was been unlucky because I used him as a left full-back, a centre-half and his position is right-back. Next season is a big one for Chris. We’ve got to teach him the game, he’s got to want to learn the game and there is ability there, no doubt about it."
Pat: "A lad who has been a little unlucky. The two up front to begin with were Simon Dawkins and Scott Thyer so he was limited in his games and then he had his injury. He has ability, he’s very enthusiastic, wants to learn and was always out there after training having shots on his own. I’m all for the lad and wish him well."
Pat: "I’m not too familiar with Alex. I knew him as a boy when he used to train with Jimmy Neighbour in the dome and he’s a smashing kid. He’s played a lot of his football as a centre-half and now he’s found that position as right-back he’s in competition with Chris Riley and John Kyriacou. It will be a big year for him and he’ll have to fight through it."
Pat: "Danny’s left us but he had great ability. He has a smashing football brain, a mature football brain for a boy of 17 but I always worried about his lack of pace. He was a small lad but physically you can get away with that but he never had that little bit of pace and that was a great shame because everyone liked him as a footballer. He’s gone to Luton and I hope he cracks it there."
Pat: "Scott’s been released but as a boy, I thought he was smashing. A nice kid from Swansea but unfortunately he let himself down in the summer, came back over weight and battled against that all season. It’s a great shame really and if Scott was here now, he’d admit it was an opportunity thrown away."
Pat: "Tommy left us and he was a good lad, I liked him. He had a very good attitude, played at the back at the start of the season and never quite did it. He’s gone to Palace so he’s got that opportunity next season and another lad we all wish well."
Pat: "Matt’s a solid player, he gets the ball and plays it nice and simple. He has a good discipline to his game. It’s another boy I’m looking forward to working with. He needs a pre-season to improve his running because his football brain is good but he needs to improve his ability to get around the park."
Pat: "He did tremendously well, especially after we told him that he would be released. It was a body blow to the lad but he recovered and played his part in the FA Youth Cup. Again, a lad I wish all the best to."
