A LITTLE HELP FROM HIS FRIEND

Paul Stalteri has tapped into the knowledge of a fellow Canadian who performs in La Liga ahead of Thursday's UEFA Cup clash against Sevilla. The countryman in question is Julian De Guzman, who plays for Deportivo and the full-back who will most likely be called upon in Seville to play in his natural position with Pascal Chimbonda expected to switch to central defence, put in a call to discover what we could encounter on the night.
"On Thursday I will probably have a good chance of playing, although you never like to say that, and it will be a tough game," reasoned Paul.
"I spoke with my friend who plays for Deportivo this week and he said that at home Sevilla are really, really strong. You can get something from them at home, but he said at their ground they are up with the best in Europe without a doubt.
"We will have our hands full over there and Julian told me that their stadium gets packed and they probably among the best fans in Spain," he added, before reluctantly responding to the question of what would have been the more difficult draw - Sevilla or his former club Werder Bremen.
"It's a tough one to answer and if I say Sevilla then everyone at Bremen will be disappointed with me. But, it might be Sevilla, if I'm honest because they have won it and are at the top of their league and are playing really well.
"At this moment in time, Bremen are not playing as well as they can have got some injury problems, but it would have been harder earlier in the season."
Paul, who enjoyed Champions League football during his time at Bremen, believes the challenge presented by this trip will be greater than the team has come across before on our travels this season.
"You are going away from home and I don't think we've been involved in a game like this yet so far. We have done really well away in Europe but, at the same time, I don't think we've played anyone near the quality we will be coming up against on Thursday.
"Besiktas was a great atmosphere and Sevilla will be something similar to that with more people and players who are among the best in Europe. It will be one of the toughest games we've had this season.
"We are going to have to play one of our best games over there."
