5-0, but mixed feelings for Clive
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Clive Allen admitted there was a tinge of disappointment despite our reserves' 5-0 win against Coventry City last night.
Development coach Clive was naturally delighted as we capitalised on a sending off to go 4-0 up at half-time at Nuneaton Borough.
However, the disappointment followed with a patchy second half display that saw the 10 men give as good as they got and the lads only add one more goal two minutes from time.
That was Lee Barnard's hat-trick goal with further strikes on the night from Eddie Silva Sousa and a spectacular effort from Mark Yeates.
"It was an amazing first half," said Clive. "There was some excellent crossing, some good finishing and it was quality play.
"It's fair to say that the game turned on the sending off but it was a case of making the extra man count and we did that until half-time.
"It was work we do day in, day, out, quality crosses and people getting in the box on the end of it and pressure in the final third. We got our rewards because of that.
"I had plenty of words at half-time to say that there were goals to be had but we had to go about things in in the right way.
"We could have scored more, I would have liked to have scored more but we didn't do it in the second half and therefore came in a little disappointed.
"I told them it was a good result but we needed to carry it through the game. I'll be honest, I hoped we would go home with a more emphatic victory."
