2014-15 Under Armour GOTS - result

22 June 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Voting for the 2014-15 Under Armour Goal of the Season has concluded and the winning strike has been revealed.

Erik Lamela’s famous ‘rabona’ against Asteras Tripolis has been selected by supporters as our Under Armour Goal of the Season for 2014-15.

Fans have been voting in their thousands to find our best strike of the recently concluded campaign and that majestic shot from our Argentine international midfielder has come out on top by some distance!

Meeting a loose ball 20 yards from goal in the Europa League group stage clash with the Greek side on October 23, 2014, Erik wrapped his left foot around his right and sent a curling effort into the top corner of the net to put us 2-0 up on the night.

That strike, already named the Europa League’s best goal of 2014-15 by an expert panel including former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and current Iceland boss Lars Lagerbäck, took 37.1 per cent of fans' votes in our Under Armour Goal of the Season poll here on

Harry Kane’s header to win us the North London derby on February 7, 2015 – his second goal that day – was runner-up with 17.6 per cent of the vote.

Erik’s ‘rabona’ is the latest in a string of fantastic goals we’ve produced on the European stage over the years.

Terry Dyson completed the scoring in our 5-1 European Cup Winners’ Cup Final victory over Atletico Madrid in 1963 by drifting in from the left and unleashing a fine shot into the top corner, while Martin Chivers famously scored an unstoppable 25-yarder to win the first leg of the 1972 UEFA Cup Final at Wolves on the way to our eventual 3-2 aggregate triumph.

Steve Perryman produced a couple of crackers in the first leg of that year’s semi-final win over AC Milan at White Hart Lane, while Alan Mullery got on the scoresheet with a 20-yard curler in the return match in Italy as we again triumphed 3-2 on aggregate.

The sight of Graham Roberts bustling his way through the Anderlecht defence to smash home our vital equaliser in the second leg of the 1984 UEFA Cup Final at White Hart Lane lives long in the memory for its importance as we went on to lift the trophy on penalties after a 2-2 aggregate draw, while Gareth Bale’s first two goals of a marvellous hat-trick against Inter Milan in a 4-3 reverse in the San Siro during our Champions League campaign of 2010-11 must surely also rank among our best ever strikes on the continent.

Part of this year’s Under Armour Goal of the Season poll sees one voter selected at random to win an Under Armour goody bag featuring a full assortment of new training products. The winner will be announced soon on Twitter @SpursOfficial.
