2012 bid nets support from Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

London's bid to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games received official backing from the club at Sunday's match against Newcastle United.

The lads warmed up in London 2012 kit and were joined by London 2012 Ambassadors and badminton Olympic silver medallists Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms as we pledged our support.

We are delighted to be involved in promoting the bid - recognising that the UK's huge passion for sport will make for the best Games ever.

Skipper and England defender said: "Sport is a big part of the make up of Britain and hosting the Olympics would be a tremendous event for the whole country, not just London. I remember Euro 96 and what an impact that had.

"Watching our athletes compete in Athens you could feel the pride the country took in their performances. I know how passionate our sports fans are from playing in packed football grounds every week - imagine what it would be like to host the Olympics and how the public would react to that."

Nathan said: "I am delighted to be here at White Hart Lane alongside Spurs to promote London's Bid. With decision day in now just under 100 days, the sense of excitement and momentum in the Bid is building. We are harnessing strong support than ever before and pulling out all the stops to prove that London has growing passion at every level."

Fans were able to register their support by texting 'LONDON' to 82012.

London 2012 leader Sebastian Coe has said that public support across the UK will play a critical part in the IOC's decision on the 2012 host city.

London 2012 recently announced the registering of its one-millionth supporter who backed the campaign to bring the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to London and has hit its figure nearly three months ahead of its target date in July.

The Bid team will present the list of supporters to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on July 6 when they meet in Singapore to take the final decision about which city should host the games.

"The more registered supporters the Bid can show the easier it is to demonstrate to the IOC the UK's support and passion to host the Games in 2012. Hosting the Games will be a catalyst for improving the whole of London as well as further afield. They will create thousands of new jobs and business opportunities as well as new homes and much needed sports facilities across the city."
