Global coaches return to Asia

Thu 08 February 2018, 21:05|Tottenham Hotspur

Our Global Coaching team are back in Asia developing young players using inspiration from our current First Team and Academy - this time helping to celebrate the opening of a new facility in Phuket, Thailand.

Anton Blackwood and Danny Mitchell are based in Hong Kong as they promote our Global Principal Partner AIA’s ‘Healthier, Longer, Better Lives’ programme using football as a vehicle to promote physical wellbeing, motivation and decision-making.

Trained within the Club’s Academy, Anton and Danny spent a successful first six months based in Hong Kong last year, delivering a series of coaching programmes across the region.

They are now back in Asia, kicking-off with 10 days in Thailand where 24 elite players were selected from cities across China for a special training camp held at an AIA sports facility in Phuket. They also delivered a session for ‘Phuket Has Been Good To Us’, including technical work and small-sided matches on the new pitch.

Anton said: “The camp in Phuket was a huge success. The players from China had great energy and were fully engaged in everything we did. The session delivered with ‘Phuket Has Been Good To Us’ was also enjoyable and we have seen that the city has some talented young footballers.

“It’s always great to support organisations like this and to give opportunities to children who might not get access to organised coaching.”

Anton and Danny tell us about their first six months in Hong Kong, in conjunction with AIA. “I’ve always lived with my parents - all of a sudden we’re in Asia, seeing and living in a different culture, a different way of life.” Read about their experiences soon...
