Club celebrates Women and Girls' Football Week

26 April 2018|Tottenham Hotspur

To celebrate Women and Girls’ Football Week, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation held a football festival for girls aged 7-9 at New River Sports Centre in Haringey.

The event was attended by over 200 girls from 20 schools in Haringey and Brent. Spurs Ladies players Ryah Vyse, Renee Hector and Bianca Baptiste joined the tournament to help develop the young players’ skills on the pitch and offer them advice and encouragement.

As part of its wider women and girls work, the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and Spurs Ladies are the delivery partner of the FA’s ground-breaking girls football scheme, the London Leopards.

Starting this week, the Foundation will deliver an eight-week introduction to football programme outside of school hours, as well as school roadshows.

This week also marks the start of the Foundation’s delivery of the SSE Wildcats programme - an FA-backed scheme designed to get more 5-11-year-old girls into football. The Foundation will provide weekly girls only football coaching sessions from spring through to summer, which will focus on improving participants’ skill base and fitness levels.

Karen Hills, Spurs Ladies Manager and Women and Girls Development Manager at Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “Female football is growing, and today’s tournament has been a great way of celebrating Women and Girls' Football Week.

It’s been a great opportunity for the young girls to meet the Spurs Ladies players and spend time with these strong, successful role models.

The London Leopards and Wildcats programmes will give girls a great platform to play football and fall in love with the game, which will see them continue to participate and transition into clubs.”
