Allegri: 'Tottenham have players with great quality in attack'

Tue 13 February 2018, 12:13|Tottenham Hotspur

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri believes tonight’s UEFA Champions League match could be decided by small details.

We’re in Turin to face the Serie A giants in the first leg of our last 16 tie, kick-off 7.45pm UK time.

We’ve faced Juve in pre-season twice in the last two years, going down 2-1 in Australia in 2016 before a 2-0 triumph at Wembley last summer, where Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen were on target.

Of course, those matches are a world away from this meeting, with a place in the quarter-finals of the top club competition around up for grabs.

Speaking to the media ahead of the game, Allegri said: “We have to play with brain, technique and try not to concede but I would not settle for a 0-0 draw before starting.

“We know their strengths and we know that we will have to suffer for some parts of the game because Tottenham have four players with great quality in attack. But we’ve grown up, especially in terms of confidence, and we did that because we have achieved very good results in Europe. Only Real Madrid have done better in my opinion in recent years.”

He continued: “I'm only sure that we will have to play very well technically because Tottenham will beat us in a physical battle. We need to play with attention and always try to keep our balance because it’s difficult for one team to dominate the other in such a balanced tie. Small details can make all the difference in the world.”

After tonight’s match at Allianz Stadium, the teams will reconvene at Wembley for the second leg on Wednesday 7 March.
