Spurs v West Brom - back in time

Our first-ever match against West Brom will go down as one of the most important in the Club's history.

The teams first met over 115 years ago - April 8, 1901 - in the FA Cup semi-final at Villa Park.

Remember, we were still a non-league club at the time, playing in the Southern League. We were champions in 1899-1900. West Brom were in the old First Division.

That mattered little as we tore the Baggies apart in front of 46,000 with a virtuoso display from Sandy Brown taking the team to the FA Cup Final for the first time. Brown scored all four goals in a 4-0 win.

The team made history six weeks later by becoming the first - and still only - non-league team to lift the FA Cup.

We played Sheffield United, also in the First Division, in the final. The first match was a 2-2 draw in front of 114,815 at Crystal Palace before a 3-1 win in the replay at Bolton's Burnden Park. 1901 - and Tottenham Hotspur were truly on the map...
