Spurs 1-1 West Brom - Mauricio's verdict

25 April 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino wasn’t ready to throw in the towel after Monday night’s draw against West Brom.

The draw leaves us seven points adrift of the leaders with three matches remaining in the Premier League.

Craig Dawson’s own goal was all we had to show for an impressive first half show.

Indeed, we had five shots at goal in the first 10 minutes with Baggies goalkeeper Boaz Myhill somehow tipping Harry Kane’s effort onto the inside of the post. Christian Eriksen also clipped the top of the crossbar with a trademark free-kick.

But it remained 1-0 and as Mauricio pointed out, that’s always a dangerous scoreline in the Premier League - underlined when Dawson headed home Craig Gardner’s corner for 1-1 on 73 minutes.

“We played very well in the first half, created a lot of chances and the feeling was that we spent a lot of energy and the reward was only 1-0,” said Mauricio.

“In the second half we lost some control and allowed them to believe and conceded a goal from a set-piece.

“I feel proud of the effort but I’m a little disappointed because we deserved more.

“We’re all disappointed in the changing room, we feel bad but in the same way we need to believe and to still fight.

“We have different objectives, first to try to win the league, then to try to keep our position in the table. There is still so much to play for.

“We need to lift the players, we need to lift our heads, still believe and be ready for the next game at Chelsea. We need to believe. Leicester play Manchester United (on Sunday) and everything can happen in football."
