Never in doubt

Kevin Wimmer had to wait five months for his chance in the Premier League last season, and delivered when it mattered. Yet it was his attitude before that chance that really struck a chord with his team-mates...
Signed from FC Cologne in the Bundesliga last summer, Kevin, 23, knew he would sit behind the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen in the central defensive pecking order.
Paired up again, Jan and Toby were outstanding together, ever-present and had conceded just 18 goals in our first 22 games in the Premier League when Jan fell awkwardly in match 23 at Palace in January.
With five appearances in cup competitions at that point, plus eight times an unused substitute in the Premier League, Kevin's chance had arrived.
How would he respond? "There was never a doubt," said Jan."He fitted in perfectly. He's a great player and delivered what everyone expected of him."
"You have to keep going and take your chance when it comes around," said full-back Kieran Trippier, whose competition with Kyle Walker drove the right-backs forward all season. "Kevin was magnificent in the games he played.
"He’s very comfortable on the ball, you can give it to him anywhere. He loves the diagonal pass and has a turn of pace about him as well. He’s an all-round quality defender."
Kyle summed-up Kevin's impact in the squad. "Kevin's top-class, even off the field when he wasn’t getting the game time you’d never see him down, he was always smiling and when he came in, he made a good contribution to the team. Full credit to him, he showed real professionalism."

"He's not just a great player to have alongside you on the pitch but he’s a top lad as well, he’s somebody you can talk to and also have a good laugh with so it’s nice to have him as part of the squad," said Ben Davies. "We’ve a great squad here.
"He underlined the competition for places we have here now. You could put any of 25 players in the team. It’s a great position for the manager and the club to be in."
Kevin played 21 games in all competitions for us last season, including 10 (nine starts) in the Premier League. He's part of the Austria squad in Euro 2016...
