Internationals - States defeated in Copa America opener
04 June 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
The opening match of this year’s Copa America didn’t exactly go to plan for DeAndre Yedlin and the US national team.
The fast-paced right-back took his place in the starting XI as the States, also the host nation, kicked-off the tournament against Colombia in the early hours of this morning (Saturday, June 4).
After seeing his side fall behind early on through Cristián Zapata’s strike, DeAndre was the unlucky player penalised for handball in the box, allowing James Rodriguez to make it 2-0 from the penalty spot shortly before half-time.
That’s how it stayed and while DeAndre (pictured above) completed the full match in Santa Clara, California, he’ll be keen for his team to get off the mark in the competition when they take on Costa Rica in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
