Internationals - mixed fortunes for lads in Sunday outings
05 June 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
All three of our lads in the Belgium squad were in action as the Red Devils concluded their pre-Euro 2016 friendly programme with a 3-2 home victory over Norway on Sunday afternoon (June 5).
Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen reprised their club-level central defensive double-act on the international stage and played the full game in Brussels, while midfielder Mousa Dembele entered the fray as an 84th-minute substitute.
Indeed, Toby was credited with the assist for Belgium’s winner, which came courtesy of his fellow defender Laurent Ciman 17 minutes from time after Norway failed to deal with a corner.
Belgium will now head off to France ahead of their opening game at Euro 2016 against Italy on Monday, June 13.
Elsewhere on Sunday afternoon, Ben Davies played for Wales as they lost 3-0 to Sweden in Stockholm while Heung-Min Son was on duty in South Korea’s 2-1 victory away to Czech Republic. Sonny was substituted two minutes into time added on at the end of the game.
Meanwhile, Filip Lesniak started for Slovakia Under-21s as they secured a late 4-3 win over England C at Sutton while England’s Under-18s side, for whom Alfie Whiteman played in goal and Marcus Edwards came on as a 72nd-minute substitute, lost 3-0 away to South Korea in a friendly.
