Fixtures 2016-17 - players' reaction
15 June 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
We've been in touch with a number of players on fixtures day - and they can't wait to get stuck into 2016-17.
Having finished a club high third in the Premier League last season, we kick-off 2016-17 at Everton on Saturday, August 13. The trip to Goodison Park is followed by a home double-header as we complete August against Palace (August 20) and Liverpool (August 27) at the Lane ahead of the first international break.
Remember, all fixtures dates are subject to change.
On the opener at Everton
"I'm sure it will be a good footballing match, hopefully we can start the season well and come home with three points," said midfielder Ryan Mason.
"Everton away is always a nice fixture, lovely stadium and in the last few seasons we've played well there," said goalkeeper Michel Vorm.
"It's a tough game to start with and I'm sure they will play a good style of football and that things will be slightly different there now with Ronald Koeman in charge," said midfielder Tom Carroll.
Nabil Bentaleb agreed: "Yes, it's a tough game, it's never easy there," he said. "We will have to be ready, focused and determined."
On the importance of the start of the season
If there was one theme between the lads, it was how crucial it is to get off to a flying start in the Premier League.
We played well at the start of last season but didn't register our first win until game number five at Sunderland with three draws and a somewhat unlucky loss at United on the opening day. Of course, we went on to finish third...
"It's really important," said Nabil of the start. "Last season we showed what we were capable of and now we need to go for it again, a good start will really build our confidence."
"You saw last season it took us a while (to get that first win) and that probably cost us," said Ryan.
"Consistency in this league is massive and points on the board early helps."
