Euro 2016 - Spurs lads preview England's opener
11 June 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Our England contingent all agree on the importance of a good start in Euro 2016 against Russia - with Dele Alli looking to 'make a statement' in Marseille this evening.
Dele is one of five players with the Three Lions alongside Eric Dier, Harry Kane, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker - all five are tipped to start.
It's a first major tournament for the quintet - Dele aged just 20, Eric and Harry both 22 - and they are all determined to take the form that took us to third in the Premier League into France.
"I think you have to make a statement," said Dele, who enjoyed a fantastic first season for us and was named PFA Young Player of the Year.
"It’s important that we put on a good performance, not just for us but for the fans as well and make that statement for the tournament. If we get off to a good start that should give us a good confidence boost for the rest of the games."

"Every game is important, the tournament is short as it is, three games in the group and every one is vital," said Eric, outstanding in a new holding midfield role for us last term.
"It doesn’t matter who you are up against, every team is going to be very good, they’ve proved that by getting into the tournament in the first place. We look forward to the challenge and we’ll face it front on."
Golden Boot winner Harry is expected to lead the line in Marseille. "It will be difficult and you’d expect that from any team in the Euros, but it’s also exciting," said the striker who bagged 28 goals in all competitions for us last season.
"Russia will be tough but we’ve got enough ability in the squad to beat them. It’s about taking confidence into that game and being fearless, expressing ourselves and getting off to a good start.
"I’m looking forward to getting going and seeing what it’s all about in my first major tournament."

Kyle got better and better as the season progressed as was named Man of the Match in England's final friendly win against Portugal.
He said: "You don’t want to lose the first game and start playing catch-up with the rest of the teams so hopefully we can get out of the blocks early and get the three points that we need to move onto the next game."
