Euro 2016 - Mousa proud of goalscorer Toby

Mousa Dembele was delighted but not surprised to see Toby Alderweireld hit the back of the net for Belgium at Euro 2016 this week.
Our reliable centre-half ventured forward and got his head on Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick to give his nation a 10th-minute lead in their last 16 clash with Hungary on Sunday night, paving the way for an emphatic 4-0 victory.
Toby promptly celebrated his goal with fellow Spurs man Jan Vertonghen (pictured below) while Mousa watched it all unfold from the substitutes’ bench with a sense of familiar pride, having seen the defender score four times in the Premier League for us – including three headers – last season.
“Toby proves what he can do in the league,” said the midfielder. “He is very strong in the air and he has good timing so he’s always a danger and that’s nice for us.
“We all know that he’s very good in the air and it was a big relief for us when he scored because after the goal I think we played very well and it made everything easier. It was a very important goal.”
Mousa hasn’t played since picking up a knock against the Republic of Ireland in Belgium’s second game of the tournament, while Toby and Jan have been ever-present at centre-half and left-back respectively during the Red Devils’ four matches so far.
With all roads now leading to Lille for Friday night’s quarter-final showdown with Wales, Mousa emphasised how the spirit among our trio – and the wider Belgian squad – is top-notch.
“It’s been a very nice experience here so far,” he added. “At the moment we are happy and we are still in the competition so that’s a big positive. There is a good connection in the group. It’s a while that we’re together but the vibe is still good and that’s a plus, a very positive thing.”

Look out for more from Mousa in the build-up to the Wales game later in the week.
