Euro 2016 - Kyle checks in from Chantilly
18 June 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Kyle Walker was outstanding in England's late, late win against Wales and deservedly named Man of the Match by UEFA. Just 48 hours later, he checked in for an exclusive chat with us...
The flying full-back was a constant thorn down the right and a source of energy from the first to the last whistle as Daniel Sturridge struck an injury time winner in Lens on Thursday.
Once again, all five Spurs players started - Kyle alongside Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Harry Kane and Danny Rose - and Kyle made it a double for us in terms of UEFA MOTM awards after Eric's display against Russia.
The win leaves England top of Group B ahead of the final round of matches with Ben Davies' Wales second. England take on Slovakia now in Saint Etienne while Wales take on Russia in Toulouse. Both kick-off at 8pm UK time on Monday.
There is a great photograph of you celebrating the winner. How did that moment feel?
Kyle: "What a great moment that was for the team. I thought we deserved the win and it showed the togetherness of the squad as well."
We said it before you left for the tournament but your form seems to be getting better and better. How do you feel?
Kyle: "Yes, I feel good. I'm just happy that I have finally got to a major tournament after missing the last two with unlucky injuries."
You were also voted Man of the Match by UEFA, a proud moment?
Kyle: "Yes, it's always good to be voted Man of the Match because it shows the work you are putting in on the pitch is getting recognised. Also, as a full-back, you are not going to get them as often as other players! I was just pleased to win, it was a big game for us."
Finally, that's you and Eric both winning MOTM awards, how are you and the Spurs lads doing out in France?
Kyle: "We're all doing great. I keep calling Eric 'Becks' (after his free-kick against Russia) for some banter. He's secretly buzzing with that one!"
