Euro 2016 - Kevin primed for Portugal and Ronaldo
18 June 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Kevin Wimmer could step into Euro 2016 action later today - against Cristiano Ronaldo.
The central defender is part of the Austria squad preparing to take on Portugal at the Park Des Princes (8pm UK).
It's a crucial game in Group F after Austria lost their opener against Hungary and Portugal were held by Iceland.
Austria's experienced centre-half Aleksandar Dragovic was sent off in that match and it looks like either Kevin or Watford's Sebastian Prodl will step in.
Speaking before the tournament, Kevin was relishing the prospect of Austria facing Ronaldo - that proposition is now even closer.
"Every footballer, especially a defender, looks forward to a game like this when you can compare yourself with the best player in the world," said Kevin, who made 21 appearances in an impressive first season at Spurs.
"First of all I have to play, then try to get around him and stop him."
Belgians up first
Ahead of Kevin possibly taking the field, our Belgium trio of Toby Alderweireld, Mousa Dembele and Jan Vertonghen face what looks like a must-win game - or at least, must not lose - against the Republic of Ireland this afternoon (2pm UK).
Belgium lost their opener against Italy, who now have two wins out of two, while Ireland drew against Sweden.
