'Dier gives you balance' - Christian

21 June 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Eric Dier has won his fair share of plaudits for his performances in an England shirt at Euro 2016 – and his talents are certainly not lost on Christian Eriksen either.

The 22-year-old made the holding midfield position his own in our colours during 2015-16 and he’s now established himself in a similar role as part of the Three Lions side that’s made it through to the last 16 of the showpiece international tournament in France.

On the scoresheet and named Man of the Match in England’s opener against Russia, Eric has been ever-present in his nation’s three matches in the competition so far and has caught the eye of fans and pundits alike.

Club team-mate Christian knows exactly why the former Sporting Lisbon man is being spoken about in such glowing terms after witnessing his progress first-hand at Spurs over recent months.

“He does a lot of the dirty work and makes it easier for us forwards to be able to do what we want to do,” said the Danish international as he reflected on Eric’s contributions to our cause last term.

“He does his job really well and I think with his support in the team we have a bit more of a balance when we go forward – he’s always there to protect us as the extra man in midfield and I think he’s impressed everyone, even outside the club as well.

“Of course when he came into our team a couple of years ago he started as a right-back and that was a bit different for him, then he played a few games as a centre-back. You can see because of his size that he’s been a centre-back but luckily he also has the technique and the passing ability which you need in midfield.

“He’s been able to bring that passing game into the middle, so I think he’s doing really well.”
